RIO DE JANEIRO – In the moments after his gold medal winning performance at the Olympic Golf Club, Justin Rose’s mother offered her son a glass of champagne.
While the Englishman’s closing 67 and two-stroke victory over Henrik Stenson was certainly worthy of a toast, this moment was to remember Rose’s father, Ken, who died in 2002 after a lengthy bout with cancer.
Sunday in Brazil was Father’s Day, and Rose took a moment to remember his father, who was also his golf coach.
“It was a toast for dad, it’s always nice to honor him,” Rose said.
