Jordan Spieth Is Chasing a FedEx Cup First: A Repeat Title

NORTON, Mass. — Jordan Spieth checked in with his second straight 68 on Saturday to stand five shots off the lead at the Deutsche Bank Championship. He is vying for his third win of the season while also positioning himself to do what no one has done in the nine-year history of the FedEx Cup: Repeat as the Cup champion.

In just giving himself that opportunity — he is guaranteed a position in the final two tournaments — Spieth is a FedEx Cup outlier. He is just the second defending FedEx Cup champion to qualify for the season-ending Tour Championship, joining Brandt Snedeker, the 2012 winner.
