MOSEL, Wis. – Jim Furyk always hated the label “Best Player Never to Win a Major.”
“One time I was paired with Colin Montgomerie and David Duval and none of us had won a major yet and we knew we were the three guys who supposedly were the three best out there to never have won a major,” he said. “I always thought that sucked.”
Duval shed the label at the 2001 British Open, Furyk at the 2003 U.S. Open, while Monty never had his day in the sun (78 at the PGA won’t change his fortunes).
