Jimmy Jones needed to fend off three players on two extra holes Sunday at the New Year's Invitational, but he got the job done.
The Florida Southern sophomore fired a final-round 70 at St. Petersburg Country Club to move from a four-shot deficit at the beginning of the day to a four-man playoff – the first in the tournament's 90-year history – by the end. Jones was joined at his 9-under total by Jimmy Stanger, Andrew McCain and Joey Lane.
The playoff remained at four after the first extra hole, as all of the participants went around in par.
