Jay Haas gets emotional sitting son Bill during Day 1

INCHEON, South Korea – The hardest part for any captain, be it at a Presidents or Ryder cup, is a toss-up between making players sit out matches and selecting your captain’s picks.

For U.S. captain Jay Haas, the former is even more difficult this week thanks in part to latter.

Haas selected his son, Bill, as one of his captain’s picks, but on Wednesday revealed that he would sit Bill, along with Chris Kirk, on Day 1 at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea.

“I thought it was going to be easier, but when I told him I got emotional,” said Jay Haas, who added that his decision was made even more difficult after watching Bill birdie four of his first five holes during practice on Wednesday.
