The 17th hole at Baltusrol is one of the last of a dying bread, a true three-shot par 5. It’s not only long, measuring 649 yards, it’s uphill all the way and features a series of cross bunkers that can be difficult to clear if your tee shot finds the deep rough. If you do hit the fairway and choose to lay up, there is a hidden pot bunker on the left side that can grab errant irons and hybrids.
Even with all that, during the 2005 PGA Championship, the hole played to a stroke average of 5.
