In Westwood vs. Spieth, experience trumps youth

SAN FRANCISCO – Now that he’s 42, Englishman Lee Westwood doesn’t see too many plusses that he’d have over a youngster half his age. But he knows of at least one.

“Experience,” Westwood said, “is one of the advantages of being 42.”

Westwood has nine Ryder Cups on his dossier, and he’s been playing match play longer than his third-round opponent at the WGC-Cadillac Match Play, Jordan Spieth, has been, well, breathing. He knows so much can happen in 18 holes of match play, how it ebbs and flows like a strong tide, and how not to get too high, nor too low.
