In search of her first win, could U.S. Women’s Open be Gerina Piller’s time?

SAN MARTIN, Calif. – Martin Piller walked outside the ropes at CordeValle under the shade of a sun umbrella. The fair and freckly PGA Tour player got fried watching his wife compete in Phoenix, Ariz., one spring and decided he’d rather not have his skin match the color of his red “Texas” t-shirt.

The Pillers recently moved to Flower Mound, Texas, situated about 30 minutes northwest of downtown Dallas. Martin watched in horror late Thursday evening as the deadly attack on police officers unfolded in his hometown, the unthinkable scene hitting even closer given that Gerina’s step-father, Alan, is a 20-year veteran in law enforcement.
