It’s fitting that in a year when the U.S. Open makes its way to an entirely new major-championship venue, players with virtually no PGA Tour experience wrapped up spots for Chambers Bay.
Two of the four qualifiers that survived the 67-man field at Springfield Country Club in Springfield, Ohio, on Monday will compete in their first Tour event at the U.S. Open, and a third will make just his second start.
The only “veteran” to punch a ticket from the Springfield sectional was Tony Finau (66-67), who finished 7 under and one stroke off medalist honors.
