AKRON, Ohio — The Sky Sports reporter Nick Dougherty was about to address Kyle Stanley, who had carded a seven-under 63 for the early first-round lead Thursday at the Bridgestone Invitational. But then Dougherty’s attention drifted from Stanley to the television monitor in his peripheral vision, which showed Tiger Woods out on the Firestone Country Club course.
As the camera rolled, Dougherty recovered his focus. “Watching a bit of Tiger,” he said. And then, turning back to Stanley: “Let’s talk about you.”
Woods was paired with Jason Day, the former world No. 1, who carded a 65 to Woods’s 66.
