Houston’s Travis Vick leads strong Texas contingent at U.S. Junior Amateur

Since 1999, six Texans have won the U.S. Junior Amateur.

Hunter Mahan lifted the trophy that year, followed by Matt Rosenfeld (2000), Cory Whitsett (2007), Jordan Spieth (twice, in 2009 and ’11), Scottie Scheffler (2013) and Will Zalatoris (2014).
After 18 holes this year at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn., the Lonestar State is well represented atop the leaderboard.

Houston’s Travis Vick fired a course-record 8-under 64 Monday morning to take a one-shot lead over another Houston resident, Cole Hammer, a University of Texas commit who played in the U.S. Open last year at Chambers Bay.
