The spring season of college golf has kicked off, and Houston has found a way to lead the UCF Challenge at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, Fla., after the first round.
Houston, No. 46 in the Golfweek ranking, carded 7-over 295 and holds a four-stroke lead over No. 37 Texas. No. 17 Iowa State, No. 23 Missouri and Augusta University each sit tied for third with 13 over.
Missouri’s Michelle Butler and Tulane’s Emily Penttila, the No. 61 individual in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, lead the field after carding 1-under 71s.
Emily Gilbreth and Megan Thothong held Houston down in round one, each in a tie for third after posting even pars.
