Horschel squares off against McIlroy on Day 3

SAN FRANCISCO – Billy Horschel knew he had a long road ahead of him when the groups were released for this week’s WGC-Cadillac Match Play on Monday.

Beyond that everything else involving the event’s new round-robin format was a mystery. “I knew that Rory [McIlroy] and I played Friday and we were the third of the pool matches,” said Horschel, who, like McIlroy, is undefeated this week in group play. “I didn’t know how anything could break down.”

He knows now that his final group match on Friday will essentially be a traditional, single-elimination game between himself and McIlroy with the winner advancing to Saturday’s Sweet 16.
