Honda extends sponsorship of Honda Classic through at least 2021

Honda Motor Company is in its 35th year of sponsoring the Honda Classic, and late Tuesday made it official that the company will extend its partnership for five more years, staying on as title sponsor through at least 2021.

PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem, in a released statement, called Honda one of the most “engaged” sponsors on Tour, and the tournament also has benefitted through its association with Jack and Barbara Nicklaus and the tournament’s host organization, Children’s Healthcare Charity, Inc.

The tournament began as the Jackie Gleason Inverrary National Airlines Classic in 1973 (Hall of Famer Lee Trevino won, taking home $52,000), but has grown in strength since establishing PGA National as a stable home in 2007.
