PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Daniel Berger hasn’t joined several of his peers from the Class of 2011 in the PGA Tour winners’ circle just yet, but he’s confident enough to know that the day will come. It nearly arrived at the Honda Classic a year ago, where he shot a final-round 64 and lost to three-time major winner Padraig Harrington in a Monday playoff.
For Berger, 22, this part of the world is home. He grew up playing at PGA National, and as a youth he used to pick the range at nearby Dye Preserve, a course he eventually ended up joining once he left Florida State and had a little money in his pockets.
