Holmes contends in Tour Championship debut, and another postseason prize looms

ATLANTA – Here’s one of the most surprising factoids from this week’s Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club: J.B. Holmes, a four-time winner on the PGA Tour, is here for the very first time.

Through two days, he’s been steady if not spectacular, opening with rounds of 68-72 to put himself in decent shape heading to the weekend, tied for ninth place at even par. He’d be in much better position had he closed better on either day. In each of the last two rounds, he has played his last six holes in 3 over. On Friday, he bogeyed two of his last three, making bogey at 17 when he tugged his tee shot into the water.
