High wind forces another British Open stoppage; restart uncertain

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – Had Carl Spackler been on someone’s bag Saturday morning at the Old Course, he might have offered some advice. “I’d keep playing,” he could be imagined telling the rules boys. “I don’t think the heavy stuff will start blowing for a while.”

Unfortunately, it took a mere 32 minutes for enough silliness to occur that led officials to sense otherwise, so the resumption of second-round play at the 144th British Open was halted Saturday morning. Fourteen games had returned to the Old Course at 7 a.m., but only those in No. 39 – Brendon Todd, J.
