ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Jim Herman first met Donald Trump in 2006 when he was working as an assistant pro at Trump National in Bedminster, N.J.

“It was one of the few times I wasn’t his partner,” Herman said on Saturday at the RSM Classic.

Herman became the president-elect’s regular partner after that day, playing numerous rounds with him before Trump helped the journeyman pro find his way onto the PGA Tour in 2011.

“He wrote me some congratulatory notes along the way, he’s a lover of golf and he’s been a good friend of mine,” Herman said.
