Henrik Stenson can no longer be considered the best player in the world without a major. And he did so in historic fashion.
The 40-year-old Swede fired an 8-under 63 and outdueled Phil Mickelson in the final round at Royal Troon to capture the 2016 British Open Championship.
Stenson joined Johnny Miller as the only player to shoot a 63 in the final round of a major. Miller did it at Oakmont in 1973.
Stenson becomes the first Swedish player to win a major. Stenson finished second at Muirfield in 2013, which was tied for the best finish by a Swede along with Jesper Parnevik and Niclas Fasth, who also finished second at a British Open.
