Two amateur golfers at the top of their respective peer groups teed it up at the FedEx St. Jude Classic Thursday, producing mixed results.
Bryson DeChambeau, the 2015 NCAA individual champion and a rising senior at SMU, and Sam Burns, the No. 1 junior in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings and an LSU signee, are the lone amateurs in the field at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tenn., this week. DeChambeau opened with a 1-under 71 – he's tied for 32nd through 18 holes – and Burns carded a 2-over 74, which has him tied for 97th and in serious danger of an early exit.
