After injuring his shoulder in the gym earlier this week, Padraig Harrington was forced to withdraw from the European Tour’s BMW PGA Championship after two holes on Thursday. It is the first time in his 20-year career that he has pulled out of a tournament.
Harrington felt discomfort during his workout Tuesday but opted to continue. He went to the range after the gym, but woke up Wednesday with stiffness in his shoulder. He missed the pro-am round but was hopeful that he’d be able to get through the BMW.
He told reporters on-site that it was “like frozen shoulder” and that he was struggling to lift his arm.
