Hammer tops tough opponent in Snyder at U.S. Junior Amateur

BLUFFTON, S.C. –– Before the matchups were announced for the Round of 64 Wednesday at the U.S. Junior Amateur, Cole Hammer and David Snyder were each aware of a possible meeting between the two of them.

And they weren't too thrilled about the potential matchup this early in the competition considering Hammer, 15, is already committed to Texas and played in the U.S. Open at Chambers Bay, and Snyder, 17, is a Stanford commit and a regular in this summer's top amateur events. Both will play in next month's U.S. Amateur, too.

“I knew there was a chance that I might get Cole in the draw,” Snyder said, “and when I got him I was thinking, ‘This is going to be a good match,’ and it certainly was.
