After three years as Georgia Regents University, the school formerly known as Augusta State is getting "Augusta back in its name.
A board of regents voted unanimously on Tuesday to change the school name from Georgia Regents University to Augusta University.
The original move from Augusta State to Georgia Regents University was precipitated by the merging of the Georgia Health Sciences and Augusta State universities in 2012.
The initial change three years ago caused outrage among local residents and alumni, as the recognizable "Augusta" name was shelved from the school title. It even led to a "Save the A" campaign to get leaders to move back to the Augusta State name.
