On a day where golfers were making birdies in bunches, Emiliano Grillo set the pace, shooting an 8-under 64 in Round 1 of the RBC Canadian Open and taking the early lead.

Grillo, a 22-year-old Argentine, made eight birdies in a bogey-free round, hitting 14 greens in regulation.

"I didn't get in any trouble today, which is important out here," said Grillo, a European Tour member. "You have four par 5s, which are pretty much all reachable, and I took good advantage."

Grillo played the par 5s in 3 under, including a chip-in birdie from 40 feet at No.
