Greg Chalmers has played in three British Opens – and made three cuts. He made his major-championship debut in 1998 at Royal Birkdale and finished T-57. He also was T-45 at Royal Lytham in 2012 and T-58 last year at St. Andrews.
He has a chance to make a fourth trip across the pond for the British Open in two weeks at Royal Troon. But he has to win this week in Reno, Nev., to do so.
So far, so good.
The 42-year-old Chalmers has won 10 times worldwide, but never on the PGA Tour. Through 54 holes at Montreux Golf and Country Club, though, he leads the Barracuda Championship by six points over two players who have tasted victory on Tour, Ben Martin and Gary Woodland.
