Greenlief downs defending champion, becomes youngest U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur winner

Lauren Greenlief can get used to this.

This was the first year Greenlief was eligible for the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur – for players 25 years and older – and she won it all.

Greenlief, of Oakton, Va., edged defending champion Margaret Shirley, 2 and 1, in the 18-hole final Oct. 8 at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, La. Greenlief qualified as No. 2 out of the 36-hole stroke-play (77-72), while Shirley was No. 4 (75-77).

Greenlief, at 25 years and 25 days, becomes the youngest champion of the event. The previous youngest was Sarah LeBrun Ingram (25 years, 3 months, 36 days) back in 1991.
