Sean Walsh, a rising senior at Gonzaga, captured the North and South Amateur Friday by defeating Arizona's George Cunningham in the match-play final at Pinehurst (N.C.) No. 2.
Walsh, a native of Keller, Texas, topped Ohio State's Clark Englen in his semifinal match Friday and then never trailed in his match against Cunningham. Walsh won the par-4 fourth hole with par to take a 1-up lead. He went up for good after another par, at the par-4 eighth. He made three birdies in 17 holes.
The North and South title isn't the only notable amateur victory for Walsh in 2015.
