Gomez's hot putting at Sony Open carries him to second PGA Tour win

HONOLULU — There were seven straight birdies in the middle of his final round of the Sony Open Sunday. But what earned Fabian Gomez his second PGA Tour victory in seven months were two birdies in three trips to the 18th late on yet another sun-splashed day at Waialae Country Club.

From four back to start the day, the 37-year-old Argentine got himself into contention with a torrid stretch starting at the par-4 sixth. Then he hung tough with Brandt Snedeker and Zac Blair over the closing holes before beating Snedeker on the second extra hole, the 18th.
