Golf, gliding and glorious views in Switzerland and France

ZURICH, Switzerland – The trip began in Orlando, Fla., where the Delta ticket agent raised an eyebrow as I lifted my golf clubs onto the scale.

“Taking your clubs to Zurich?” he asked.

Switzerland is better known for fondue than fairways. But my friend Jenny Kellams and I set out to prove that skiing isn’t the only sport that American tourists can enjoy in the scenic Alps. The assignment: find great vacation spots in the run-up to the Evian Championship in France.
