ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – Had the stone from his slingshot on Sunday conquered golf’s 21-year-old Goliath at the John Deere Classic, Tom Gillis harbors no second thoughts regarding where he’d be this week.
Had he notched his first PGA Tour victory at age 46, Gillis, a golfer who has spent a quarter-century chasing the dream, playing around the planet and bounding in and out of golf’s minor leagues, would have been dangling his feet in the lake at home in Michigan alongside his wife, Jennifer, and two young children.
“I’ve been laboring for 25 years.” Gillis said, “and it (winning) would be the pinnacle of something for me – as much as I love it over here, and as much as I respect it.
