It’s a crowded leaderboard after Day 1 in the Monroe Invitational, and two local boys are helping set the pace.
Jack Gianniny and Gunnar Doyle, both residents of Pittsford, N.Y., shot 1-under 69s in their hometown event at Monroe Golf Club. Gianniny, a rising sophomore at Delaware, and Doyle, a recent high school graduate who plays out of nearby Oak Hill Country Club, share the lead with collegians Logan Hogge (Morehead State), Kevin DeHuff (Pepperdine), Joey Lane (Virginia Tech), Jake Mondy (Auburn), Will Seger (Indiana) and Beau Titsworth (Oklahoma), plus James Scorse, a mid-amateur from nearby Churchville.
Gianniny, 19, is a two-time winner of the Monroe Junior Invitational and a former state high school champion.
