GB&I jumps out to Walker Cup lead after Saturday foursomes

Scores

LYTHAM ST. ANNES, England – Home-course advantage was crucial in the opening session of the 45th Walker Cup. Will it hold for the afternoon singles?

Great Britain & Ireland hold a 3–1 lead after the opening session. However, home fans shouldn’t get too excited. GB&I won the first foursomes 2.5–1.5 two years ago at the National Golf Links of America only to suffer a 6.5–1.5 drubbing in the afternoon singles.

Ashley Chesters and Jimmy Mullen of England led the home team off with a 3-and-2 victory over Hunter Stewart and Maverick McNealy.
