SAN MARTIN, Calif. — Ireland’s Niall Kearney made a great up-and-down at the last hole, capping a day of wild momentum swings and giving Great Britain and Ireland a monumental victory at the 27th PGA Cup on Sunday at CordeValle.
By scoring a 13-1/2 to 12-1/2 victory, the Great Britain and Ireland team of club and teaching professionals won on American soil for the first time. GB&I had been 0-11-2 away from home in the biennial matches.
“This is why you play,” said Kearney, whose par 5 at the last hole secured a 1-up victory over Alan Morin of Lake Worth, Fla.
