Fresh off qualifying for British Open, Paul Dunne struggles in French Open first round

GUYANCOURT, France – Remember Paul Dunne?

He was the amateur who entered the final round of last year’s British Open at St. Andrews with the co-lead and a spot in the final group. Through 54 holes, the Irishman showered a mastery over the Old Course that few amateurs had since the days of Old Tom Morris. But on that Sunday in Scotland, Dunne was 12 shots worse than his third-round score, shooting 8-over 78 and finishing T-30.

Now a professional on the European Tour, Dunne, 23, will get another crack at the British Open after qualifying for next month’s major at Royal Troon with rounds of 68-67 at Woburn Golf and Country Club in England.
