Fred Lee claimed a 2-and-1 victory over medalist Travis Vick to advance to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Junior Amateur at the Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn.
Lee, the Western Australia Champion, is playing in his first USGA Championship. He won the 13th hole to go 2 up, a lead he would not relinquish.
“It definitely proves that my game is solid,” said Lee. “It showed out there today. I didn’t miss many greens and I hit quite a few fairways.”
While the medalist Vick won’t be in the quarterfinals this year, the final eight will include two semi-finalists from 2015.
