A family obligation prevented me from watching most of Day 1 of the U.S. Open, and what little I saw – on a TV in an airport bar, with the sound turned down – didn’t leave me much cause for optimism. During the first 25 minutes I watched, I don’t recall seeing more than two live golf shots struck during the first 25 minutes, which was dominated by Fox Sports’ announcing crew, led during that segment by Curt Menefee.
A side note: It was around this time that a friend, whose judgment I trust, called to offer this nugget: “Curt Menefee makes Chris Berman look like Chris Schenkel.
