Former New Mexico State golf coach Larry Beem, father of 2002 PGA champ, dies

Larry Beem, the father of 2002 PGA Championship winner Rich Beem and the former men's head golf coach for New Mexico State, died Friday night, the school announced early Sunday morning.

“Our thoughts and prayer are with the family of Larry Beem,” Aggies athletic director Mario Moccia said in a statement. “An All-American and Aggie Hall of Famer in his own right, as well as being a head coach. There’s no doubt we lost an important member of the Aggie golf community.”

No cause of death was released for Beem, who played at New Mexico State from 1962-64 and was the program's first All-America golfer.
