Former champ Cink withdraws from The Open

Former Open champion Stewart Cink has withdrawn from the 145th Open, the R&A announced Wednesday.

Cink earned his lone major title in 2009, when he defeated Tom Watson in a playoff at Turnberry. This will mark the first time the 43-year-old has missed The Open since 1999.

Cink announced in April that he was taking a leave from professional golf to be with his wife, Lisa, who was diagnosed with breast cancer. While he has made two starts since, most recently a T-65 finish at the FedEx St. Jude Classic, he has indicated that his playing schedule will largely revolve around his wife's treatment schedule and overall health.
