The PGA Tour hates to lose any playing opportunity for members. So when the Greenbrier Classic was canceled because of severe flooding in West Virginia, Tour officials discussed moving up the John Deere Classic to the Greenbrier’s displaced date (July 7-10) and holding a Tour event at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minn., during Deere’s slot (Aug. 11-14). (The PGA Tour Champions’ 3M Championship will have been played the previous week.) All money raised would have been donated to the flood victims. Logistics fell through.
But don’t be surprised if the PGA Tour soon starts making regular visits to the “land of 10,000 lakes.
