ATLANTA – By almost every measurement the PGA Tour enjoyed one of its most successful seasons in 2014-15.
According to Tour commissioner Tim Finchem, who gave his annual “State of the Tour” press conference on Wednesday at East Lake, the average television broadcast ratings are up 20 percent and the circuit signed long-term sponsorship deals this year with AT&T, Travelers, Waste Management and Wyndham.
With that kind of “bullish” outlook, one would think Finchem would be comfortable stepping down next June when his current four-year contract expires.
Some have speculated that Finchem, 68, would step down from the post he’s held since 1994, particularly after the Tour named Jay Monahan deputy commissioner in 2014.
