Argentine Fabian Gomez defeated American Brandt Snedeker on the second playoff hole to win the Sony Open at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu. Both players finished on 20-under par 260 to force extra holes. American Zac Blair finished alone in third to round out the podium as his eagle putt on the final hole just missed.
Beginning the final round four shots adrift of the leaders, Gomez rocketed up the leaderboard on Sunday as he rolled in 10 birdies, including eight in his first 12 holes, against only two bogeys, and was the first to post 20-under. After his streak of seven birds in a row, he showed a bit of nerves by carding back-to-back bogeys to give the field hope.
