U.S. Open champion Dustin Johnson won for his second consecutive try on the PGA Tour, capturing the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club’s South Course. Johnson closed with a final-round 66 to post 6-under 274 to defeat U.S. Open runner up Scott Piercy by a shot.
For the second outing in a row, the big-hitting stud wore out sprinkler lines, created new landing areas and held his nerve on the greens. After pocketing $1.8 million at Oakmont he turned right around and added another $1.62 at Firestone and vaulted into No. 2 in the OWGR.
In the span of three weeks, Johnson went from a guy who wasn’t sure if he could close out a Sunday at a major to the most dominant player on Tour.
