Every's 3-under points to return to form

KAPALUA, Hawaii — On a golf course stretched to more than 7,400 yards and accentuated with severe elevation changes across hundreds of acres, the small things still matter.

That is why Matt Every could walk away from Thursday’s first round of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions with a sliver of satisfaction. True, he had double-bogeyed the Plantation Course’s par-4 17th, but his 3-under 70 was “a step in the right direction.”

Don’t dance around the topic or try and tip-toe into the question, because Every is as honest as they come. Yes, he won in 2015, successfully defending his title at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and sure, he’s here in the winners-only Hyundai, but no sugar-coating it.
