European Tour sets 46-event, 26-nation schedule for 2016

The men’s Olympic golf tournament has been included on the European Tour’s 2016 schedule. It’s part of a 46-event rota across 26 countries released Tuesday.

Keith Pelley, the European Tour’s chief executive, made the announcement during the DP World Championship in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the final event of the 2015 season. Pelley also announced that next year’s Final Series will be reduced to three events from the current four.

The men’s Olympic competition takes place Aug. 10-13, two weeks after the PGA Championship, in Rio de Janeiro.

The Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa moves into the Final Series, with the WGC-HSBC Champions dropping out and the BMW Masters coming off the schedule altogether.
