The race to make the 2016 European Ryder Cup team will begin later this year in Russia.
European captain Darren Clarke announced that the first qualifying event will be the M2M Russian Open, held Sept. 3-6 in Moscow.
"I am delighted that we are able to announce the start of the qualification for the 2016 European Ryder Cup team," Clarke said in a statement. "This signals the start of what I know will be an intense and exciting period for me personally and for everyone involved with the European Tour."
With the 2016 European Tour schedule still to be announced, the final event of the qualification process is not yet known.
