Eun Jeong Seong’s title defense at the U.S. Girls’ Junior Amateur got off to a great start Monday as the defending champ fired a 6-under 67 at the Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, N.J.
Seong, 16, of Korea, made seven birdies and only one bogey en route to her 67, which handed her a two-shot lead over Aubree Jones and Sadie Englemann.
Seong is looking to become the first player to win back-to-back titles at the U.S. Girls’ Junior since Hollis Stacy won three years in a row from 1969-1971.
Englemann and Jones, ranked 51 and 60 in the junior girls Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, are hoping their hot starts carry over to better performances than they had in 2015.
