CARMEL, Ind. — Paul Casey’s Ryder Cup singles match arrived three weeks early, and it was contested 607 miles from Hazeltine National Golf Club. In Sunday’s final round of the BMW Championship at Crooked Stick, Casey, the seventh-best European in this week’s world rankings at No. 22, played in the final pairing with Dustin Johnson, the top-ranked American at No. 2.
They quickly separated themselves from the field. Their match-play duel was riveting, pitting Johnson, who is No. 1 on the PGA Tour in driving distance, against Casey, who is No. 5 in greens in regulation.
