LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Dustin Johnson and Troy Merritt were tied for the lead Friday at the Northern Trust Open. Jordan Spieth was out the door.
Spieth missed the cut for the first time since September. He ran off four straight birdies around the turn, only to make sloppy mistakes with his irons that cost him bogeys he could not afford. He shot 68 and was likely to miss the cut by at least four shots.
Johnson played in the group ahead of Spieth at Riviera and made four birdies in a five-hole stretch in the middle of his round for a 66.
