REUNION, Fla. – Leona Maguire begins her sophomore season the leader of the frontrunner for a national championship. She won three times as a freshman at Duke, and still managed to post a 3.87 GPA. And she was the second recipient of the ANNIKA Award Presented by 3M.
A competitor like that must be preordained with booming confidence to dare conquer such heights so soon. Maguire, though, can’t say she knew this was coming.
“I didn’t really know what to expect freshman year,” Maguire said. “I wanted to win tournaments and get an award like this, but I didn’t expect it that fast.
