When the whiff of a potential Open Championship spot is in the air, apparently low scores are bound to follow.
That was the case Saturday at the Thailand Golf Championship, where Frenchman Clement Sordet fired a 9-under 63 to rocket into the lead and Lee Westwood posted a 64 to charge into solo third. The Thailand Golf Championship is part of the Open qualifying series, in which the leading four players who finish in the top 12 and ties this week who aren't already exempt for the 2016 Open will earn entry to Royal Troon.
With 18 holes to go at Amata Springs Country Club, Sordet and Westwood would gain the Open spots they lack if the leaderboard remained the same.
